The Mainsheet - January 2026
Chuck Manley, AYC Commodore 2026
The Commodore’s Compass
AYC is ready for another outstanding year, both on the water and in the club. There are some important changes for the upcoming year.
All dinners and meetings will be on Saturday nights. No more Fridays. We found traffic on Fridays beyond frustrating and slow which understandably affected turn out for dinners. Speaking of club dinners; Please host a dinner at least once a year. If you are unable or unwilling to host please consider a 250 dollar contribution to the club. That would be revenue from a small turnout for a dinner. Our dinner participation has waned recently thereby affecting an important source of revenue and our social ties that make club membership special. Please make efforts to attend at least 3 dinners beside your own.
Help Wanted! I find contributing to the club with my time and energy very rewarding and makes my yacht club experience worth while. Please consider helping in the following ways:
Tend bar, get your license and training and have some fun. The online course is about 5 hours. Regina or I can get you trained in a couple of shifts. And you will be a bartender.
Race committee, join us on Piper for a race or two, you’ll learn a lot while having fun on the water. No experience necessary.
Race what you got! On our Wet Wednesday we have a non spin cruising class. As a member racing is part of membership. You deserve a midweek sail followed by a party with like minded folks.
Cruise and day sail with us. The monthly Gina cruise, and Frenchys picnic returns in April. Join us!
Use the club; enjoy hosting private parties but don’t want the hassle? The club is available. We can provide tasty meals and a full bar for your guests. Talk to Chuck or Regina to schedule retirement , birthdays, and other occasions at the AYC. Your non sailing guests and family will enjoy our club and perhaps know more about the sailing part of your life.
Hope to see you soon on the water and at the club! It’s an excellent way to fulfill your free moments.

The December Holiday Bash suprise was power outage fun!
Members gathered for this yearly event bringing delicious food and gifts. The tastiness of the tamales , enchiladas, shrimp , salsa and guacamole gave us a south of the border festiveness. Oh, not to be outdone were the wonderfully constructed salads , desserts , and that fantastic banana bread! Thank you for showing up with your best everyone.
As the evening, full of joy and camaraderie, progressed the club was subjected to a power outage! It was after the meal and at the point of the traditional White Elephant gift exchange. As sailors making do with what is available, all brought out their phone flashlights in order to examine gifts and decide if a trade was warranted. It turned out to be great fun and no darkness was noticed.
