Great weather, great sailing!
The Commodore’s Compass
As we all take a collective breath after a very successful racing season for 2026 , the Bridge and Board are moving forward in preparing for 2027.
As most of you know our ancient rusty beer cooler finally gave up the ghost back in mid-September. We formed a beer cooler committee of Angie Frausto, Mike Taylor, Marshall Murphy, and Lorenz Perner. Since the old cooler supported the bar hutch, Lorenz engineered a new stand for the hutch. Marshall got his truck out to bring the old cooler to be recycled, and the committee bought a new cooler. and AYC is back selling cold beer. Thanks to all beer cooler committee members! ( Special thanks to Angie for making this happen quickly).
The board met in October and we have filled the board with new members for the upcoming year 2027. As of now, November, these positions are uncontested so elections are not necessary. Mike Taylor is signing up for another year as commodore. Mike always brings good times to the club. Kevin Bigler has agreed to be vice Commodore, bringing along his tech expertise and enthusiasm for all things sailing. I'll wear the pink shorts and drink beer as the Junior Commodore. Lorenz Parnel will bring experience to be Rear Commodore for another year. Marshall Murphy will continue to bring his financial expertise to the Treasurer position. Alan Hayashi brings his enthusiasm and new ideas to the board as Secretary.
Angie led AYC through a very successful Kayak Poker Run in October. Our second annual poker run went off without a problem and all participants had great times as our club reached out to the community and brought marine safety and knowledge at each of the 5 stops in the run. Next year get your kayaks and paddleboards out to participate for our third annual poker run.
Help wanted - We need a few members to step up to fill these duties:
Bar manager requires, realistically, Wed afternoons to stock the bar for the evenings event and to inventory and order for the next Wed. Be willing to be head bartender for Wednesday. Experience is welcome but not required.
Galley manager duties involve inventories supplies for our menu then shops for them every Wed. Serving the plates not required, we as members serve as ODs once or twice a year. Galley managers can establish the menu, food quality and prices for our menu. Ever dream of running a restaurant or a bar? Here's opportunity without the financial risk.
Bartenders are always needed. You can be a bartender in California by taking a short 4 hour course, Userve is an online course I have used. It's super easy. Crafting the drinks and serving them is fun and a few times behind the bar will get you up to speed quickly. Drop me an email at chuckmanley@hotmail.com if you are interested.
See you all on the water!
